THE LUCID DREAMING SERIES
The Lucid Dreaming series comprises sixteen abstract works influenced by the style of the artistic movements of the early twentieth century, in particular the orphism of Robert and Sonia Delaunay, cubism and futurism.
These oil works, of which seven were executed on paper and nine on canvas, describe the intersection between sleep and insomnia, that place and time when the lucid dreams are revealed to our inner eye.
The paintings address some of the endless secret codes and mechanisms that our evolved yet so primitive human brains activate in the most diverse fashions, as a result of society, family heritage, complex, trauma, choc, love, needs and hopes, and individual tendencies and choices, in an attempt to cope with the anxiety of living and dying, and find the way to bring some peace to our spirit, accept things as they are, use our short time the best we can.

Dream of Antioch I of Commagene (2022)
Oil on canvas, 54×46 cm
Antioch or Antiochus I (69–34 B.C.) was the king of the Greco-Iranian kingdom of Commagene during the first century BC, and one of the last rulers of a Persian-Macedonian court before the advent of the Romans.
Antiochus wanted his body to be preserved for eternity, so he promoted the construction of the impressive religious sanctuary of Mount Nemrut, a 2,134-metre-high mountain in southeastern Turkey, notable for the summit where a number of huge statues 8–9-metre high of himself, two lions, two eagles, and various composite Greek and Iranian gods, such as Heracles-Artagnes-Ares, Zeus-Oromasdes, and Apollo-Mithras-Helios-Hermes, are erected around what is assumed to be Antiochus’ royal tomb.
Antiochus’ tomb complex was constructed in a way that religious festivities could occur there. The priests offered incense, herbs, and other unspecified “splendid sacrifices” on altars set before each image. All the citizens and military were invited to the banquets. Antiochus decreed that the people should enjoy themselves, drink wine, eat, and listen to the sacred music performed by the temple musicians.
Antiochus’ tomb was forgotten for centuries, until 1881 when German archaeologists started excavating it. In 1987, Mount Nemrut was made a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
